2019 Favourites

It’s that time of year again! It’s time to do a big old roundup of everything that I have loved using this year. I find these posts very useful to revisit throughout the year, as a little reminder of what were my absolute favourites and what I should put back into my routine. I have definitely been trying to finish products and not to hoard/ overbuy items unnecessarily.

Every year I like to buy the Christmas limited edition Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. Not only does it always smell amazing, but it’s my favourite second cleanse product in my routine. Its light creamy texture makes it so easy to use and remove. I definitely prefer the scent of the Christmas editions over the original Cleanse and Polish. My only wish is that the brand would continue the line throughout the year so that I wouldn’t need to stock pile at Christmas.

My skincare routine has remained pretty similar to last years round of of my favourites. My focus has still been to pack in as much moisture into my skin as possible. The most notable brands that I like to swap between are La Roche-Posay, Kiehl’s, Clinique and Clarins. I’ve also tried to scale back on the amount of products I have in my routine, because I am aware that my consumption can get a bit excessive at times, but also to allow the products to work, instead of putting layers and layers of different ingredients on.

Favourite products 2019

My sensitive scalp causes issues when it comes down to using shampoo. I don’t know whether I have an allergy or what, but it seems that I can use any shampoo however, the next day after using it I get very very itchy. I definitely don’t need to tell you that it isn’t pleasant having to constantly scratch your head at work and then to receive really strange looks from your colleagues haha! The only hair products that I found to not have this issue is The Body Shop Ginger Shampoo and the Kérastase range.

To be honest I haven’t actually worn that much makeup over this year. When I have done, I’ve tried to create the most natural look possible. My absolute favourite product being the Chanel Les Beiges Eau de Teint Water Fresh Tint. The product is made from 75% water which makes it incredibly lightweight and hydrating on the skin. The way I apply it is by pumping two pumps onto the back of my hand and using the brush provided with the product. I then swirl the product around popping the encapsulated pigments so that it applies perfectly onto the skin. I then follow this with the Nude by Nature Loose Finishing Powder to any particularly shiny areas and voila my natural healthy glowy look is complete!

June Product Empties ’19

I think its been far too long since I’ve posted about my empty products, over half a year in fact! I think it’s about time that I empty my big bag that’s gathering dust into the recycling bin.

When it comes to hand cream, I never stray too far from my La Roche-Posay Lipikar Hand Repair Cream. It’s the perfect texture and is not too heavily scented. My other favourite is the Garnier Intensive 7 Days Restoring Hand Cream, which is easier to find and stocked in most drug stores and supermarkets.

As a lens wearer I go though countless bottles of eye drops and lens solution. I am definitely guilty of wearing lenses for too many hours, so I always have a bottle of Hylo-Tear to combat dryness.

Nothing new in the cleansing category for me, I will always go through micellar waters/ gels for makeup removal as well as a separate product for my eyes, followed by my Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish in Sweet Orange and Mint for a second cleanse. My skincare routine is all about packing in the hydration. All the products in my routine are designed to combat dryness with lots of hyaluronic acid as well as vitamin C. The La Roche-Posay HyaluB5 and the Kiehl’s Hydro-Pluming Re-Texturising Serum are my favourites to alternate between. I already had back ups of both even before I had finished them.

Product Empties

I’ve definitely had a clean up of my makeup stash recently and found new homes for products that I don’t really use anymore. My cushion foundations unfortunately had to go. I love the texture of them however both the L’Oreal and the Lancome cushions dried up very quickly within just a few months since opening. I probably won’t be repurchasing them as they are simply not great value for money. I had the same issue with my Clinique Touch Base for Eyes, it dried out very quickly and I much prefer eyeshadow primers that come in a squeezy tube or with a doe foot applicator.

Bath and shower is a category that I don’t usually spend that much money on. As long as it smells good, I’m happy. I found a mini L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil in my cupboard that I was saving for when I travel. I realised that it would probably be a bit risky to take it away just incase it leaked everywhere so I popped it in my shower to use it up. It has slowly become my favourite and probably my most indulgent shower product. It’s so hydrating, smells amazing, plus it’s great to use when shaving. I have already gone and bought the full size.

It’s oddly satisfying when you finish a product and get to start afresh. All in all, I think I’m doing pretty well at shopping my stash at the moment and trying to avoid buying more product, but sometimes I just can’t resist getting a good deal and stocking up.

October Product Empties ’18

I’ve been in a decluttering mood recently. I think that the strangely warm weather this past month in London has really got me motivated to have a huge clear out before the cold really sets in, and all I would want to do is come home after work and wrap up in my cosy dressing gown.

This time round I seem to be very ‘cleanser heavy’, finishing 4 different cleansing products. I like to alternate between Garnier SkinActive Express 2in1 Eye Make-up Remover and a more premium version like Lancome Bi-Facil as a special treat. They are both very similar, with a non-oily formula and they are great at removing waterproof eye makeup. For the rest of face, I like using the La Roche-Posay Make-Up Remover Micellar Water Gel. For slightly heavier makeup days I will use the Pixi + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse to melt my makeup with the balm and then double cleanse with the cream.

Recently I have been battling with an increasing number of breakouts and I still haven’t worked out why. Anyway the one product that I have been using even more is Serozinc by La Roche-Posay. The zinc sulphate in the mist has really been helping to calm any redness and replace any moisture lost post breakout.

When I haven’t been trying to deal with spots, I’ve been attempting to solve my extremely dehydrated skin. For my lips I use a scrub from Lush every other day to remove any flakiness and L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is the perfect handbag friendly product that prevents any dryness on the go.

Kérastase Specifique Anti Dandruff Solution Shampoo has really helped with my sensitive scalp, as well as treating my dandruff without feeling too stripping. I then add a few drops of Tresemmé Oleo Radiance Oil Elixir to my conditioner to leave my hair smooth and silky. I can also get the same effect with Kérastase Keratine Thermique Smoothing Taming Milk when it is applied to wet hair before blow drying.

After clearing out my mascara collection and using a different mascara every day for a week, I realised that I had actually used up two of them already. The L’Oreal Double Extension Waterproof Mascara gives length to my lashes however I don’t actually use the primer end, so half of the product is wasted on me. The No7 Lash Impact Waterproof Mascara is my preferred choice for it’s clump free formula giving separation and volume.

As you can probably tell if you have read any of my empties posts before, I have a couple of products that I can’t seem to get enough of. What would you like me to try next?

November Product Empties #2

It’s time to share some of the products I have used up over the past few months.

I managed to go through several bottles of micellar water. I use the Garnier products on a daily basis to remove my makeup before doing my second cleanse. I prefer the original formulation of the Garnier micellar water compared to the combination skin version. I just feel that it takes off product easier. My absolute favourite is the Bioderma Sensibio H20, however I like to use this on special treat days because it is slightly more expensive than the rest.

Over the summer, the fragrance I wore on a daily basis was Chanel Chance eau Tendre. I finished up one of the 20ml refills. I decided to buy the twist and spray travel bottle so that I could carry it around all the time and it was better value for money compared to the 50ml or 100ml bottles.

My all time favourite products from La Roche-Posay are Serozinc and Effaclar Duo, the combination of the two products have really helped with reducing the redness and blemishes on my skin.

My go to loose powder foundation is from No7. It comes in the one shade, New Ivory and it suits my skin quite well. On days where I don’t have enough time or my skin is just not behaving, I like to dust a light layer of this powder foundation on for a very natural look.

I have always struggled to keep my eyeshadows in place and the only product I have found to do that is Clinique’s Touch Base for Eyes. It has quite a creamy consistency and helps my eyeshadow last all day long without melting away.
