January Product Empties 20′

January is upon us, and it’s time to kickstart a whole new decade. A new year usually brings upon a time of reflection, re-evaluation, and also a feeling of promise to what the new year would have in store for us.

A new year also reminds me to a bit of a clear out and bring out the big pile of empty products stacking up in the corner of my room.

Time to have a declutter

I’ve finally finished a fragrance. I think that it has actually take me years to finish my Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne. It’s definitely a very sweet spring-like scent. I probably won’t repurchase this at the moment because I have  quite a few fragrances that are similar. I like to chop and change the fragrances I wear with each occasion and different season and often I get bored of the same scent and pass them onto friends so that they can enjoy them.

Over the past couple of months, I have had really bad bouts of eczema on my hands, usually caused my stress. I could have one bad day and I would wake up the following morning with swollen, itchy and very dry hands, which would take months to shift. I would share pictures, but I think you can probably picture what I’m talking about haha! Scented products didn’t bother my hands at all so I could still use my beloved La Roche-Posay Lipikar Hand Repair Cream, as well as L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. I even finished off my Kiehl’s Intensive Treatment and Moisturizer when I found out that it was back in stock after what felt like years of being unavailable.

 L'Occitane Kiehl's La Roche-Posay

Of course it wouldn’t be an empties post for me without mentioning my No7 Lash Extender Mascara. It provides both length and volume without breaking down and leaving pieces all down my face. I also used up two Chanel complexion products. In July I discovered the Les Beiges Eau de Teint Water Fresh Tint. It was popping up all over YouTube and seemed like the perfect product for me. In the warmer months I try to wear less makeup and focus on having glowy skin. The product was so hard to find as it was out of stock everywhere. Eventually by pure luck I found it in Harrods. It gives the perfect ‘your skin but better’ look and was my absolute favourite for months. Then when it came to re-purchase, it was still out of stock everywhere, so I went back to a different foundation in the range, the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation Cushion. This foundation gives a a bit more coverage than the Water Tint but has a similar effect. I won’t be buying any more cushion refills unless the Water Tint goes out of stock again, because it dries up very quickly and has an incredibly high cost per wear because of this.

In terms of skincare empties, I’ve used up a lot of my favourites such as Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturiser, Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream, Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Sweet Orange and Mint and La Roche Posay Serozinc Mist. It took me a while to use up Vichy Mineral 89. I was using it at night but it always felt like it wasn’t as hydrating as my other serums, but later I discovered that it performed a lot better in the morning as the last step of my routine before makeup.

Beauty Advent Calendars

It’s not too soon to be thinking about Christmas. The shops have been decked up since September and the clocks have gone back an hour, so we’re half way there! I’ve never really had a chocolate advent calendar. Even as a child, it wasn’t really a thing with my family. Maybe one year I may have shared one with my sister, but that was it. But beauty advent calendars are a whole other story. Last year I remember getting a Liz Earle calendar. It was only 8 days but included a full size 150ml hot cloth cleanser. I loved it and it was great value for money.

Spoiler alert! Here I will share with you some advent calendars that have been released this year. They all vary in price and length, both 12 day and 25 days.

Sleek Makeup A Gift a Day

This 25 day calendar is great value for money at £35 and comes in the classic tear off packaging. This collection of products will be perfect to create multiple looks over the festive season.

It contains:

4 Twist Up Lip Pencis

Liz Earle Twelve Days of Christmas

Priced at £66, this calendar is for the skincare enthusiasts out there. All the products are individually wrapped in little cute blue boxes. This calendar contains similar products to last years version and is also almost double in price, with only a deluxe sample size of the award winning hot cloth cleanser and the addition of products from their Superskin range.

Clarins 12 days of Christmas

What I love about this calendar is that it comes with two full sized products worth £39.50. This calendar is perfect for for someone who wants to try Clarins products for the first time. It has both skincare and makeup products for £60. This calendar is also great to reuse and make your own advent calendar for next year.

It contains:

Beauty Flash Balm
Tonic Bath & Shower Concentrate
Instant Eye Make-Up Remover
SOS Hydra Mask
One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser
Gentle Refiner

Ciaté Mini Mani Month

This advent calendar will take care of your nails for more than just a month. Priced at £50 for 24 polishes. There is only one filler product, a miniature nail file.

I will be getting the M&S calendar too, which came out the 9th November. It’s £35 when you spend £35 on clothing, beauty and home.

There are some great advent calendars out this year. They make great presents for friends and family, and you don’t have so spend a fortune on them either if you just wanted to try out products for the first time.

November Product Empties #2

It’s time to share some of the products I have used up over the past few months.

I managed to go through several bottles of micellar water. I use the Garnier products on a daily basis to remove my makeup before doing my second cleanse. I prefer the original formulation of the Garnier micellar water compared to the combination skin version. I just feel that it takes off product easier. My absolute favourite is the Bioderma Sensibio H20, however I like to use this on special treat days because it is slightly more expensive than the rest.

Over the summer, the fragrance I wore on a daily basis was Chanel Chance eau Tendre. I finished up one of the 20ml refills. I decided to buy the twist and spray travel bottle so that I could carry it around all the time and it was better value for money compared to the 50ml or 100ml bottles.

My all time favourite products from La Roche-Posay are Serozinc and Effaclar Duo, the combination of the two products have really helped with reducing the redness and blemishes on my skin.

My go to loose powder foundation is from No7. It comes in the one shade, New Ivory and it suits my skin quite well. On days where I don’t have enough time or my skin is just not behaving, I like to dust a light layer of this powder foundation on for a very natural look.

I have always struggled to keep my eyeshadows in place and the only product I have found to do that is Clinique’s Touch Base for Eyes. It has quite a creamy consistency and helps my eyeshadow last all day long without melting away.
